New Stairlift vs Reconditioned Stair Lifts

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

Buying a stairlift can be quite expensive and its not something that we do everyday. Both new and reconditioned stairlifts have their pros and cons. We have put together some tips to help you decide.

Reconditioned Stairlifts – Advantages

Price is obviously the main advantage with a reconditioned stairlift. A reconditioned stairlift will usually be much cheaper than a brand new stairlift. At One Stop Mobility we offer great reconditioned stairtlifts at great prices. All our reconditioned stairlifts are less than 3 years old and have been rigoursly checked over and refurbished.

Reconditioned Stairlifts- Disadvantages

In many ways, buying a secondhand stairlift can be as reliable as buying a new one. However, there are a number of disadvantages that you need to be aware of.

1. If it’s a curved track you need it will be virtually impossible to find secondhand curved track for a stairlift as they need to be bespoke made to fit the flight of stairs. However we can offer you a bespoke made track with a reconditioned chair which greatly reduces the cost.

2. If you buy a secondhand stairlift make sure you buy from a reputable stairlift company to ensure you receive a comprehensive aftercare service.

3. Faults are more common in used models. If your supplier has not provided a comprehensive warranty this can be expensive. However experience has lead us to fitting only the most reliable models on  the market to minimise this risk.

6. Finding replacement parts for secondhand models can be difficult, especially if the model is no longer available. This is why at One Stop mobility we only fit the latest stairlift model, never more than 3 years old.

If you are going to buy a reconditioned stair lift make sure you buy it from a reputable stairlift dealer. Make sure the stairlift comes with a comprehensive warranty. Also make sure the stairlift has been rigorously checked and all worn parts have been replaced.

New Stairlifts – Advantages

1.       They are obviously newer so they will probably be in better condition than a secondhand stairlift

2.       They tend to be more realiable when they are new

3.       Parts are easier to come by if the stairlift is a new model

New Stairlifts – Disadvantages

1.       Again the price is the obvious disadvantage as a new stairlift will be more expensive than a reconditioned stairlift

Here are 5 tips for you to stay Mentally Fit at Old Age
 1. To get your blood circulation going start your day with a morning walk or jogging. Try yoga and meditate to stay mentally fit, you have to stay fit physically as well.
  2. Do what you want to do,  you have worked all your life and  done a lot for your family so now its time to look after yourself. Spend your free time doing things you enjoy.
 3. Mental exercise is good.  Do crosswords or play some challenging games like chess and solve puzzles when you are free. Be creative and try doing some creative works like writing some poems, songs, stories, and paintings.
 4. Try to meet new people of your age. You can  share your experiences with them and at the same time an opportunity for you to learn from them. At old age, you need people to interact with, because normally all your family  are busy with their own daily routines. So you have to make your own friends who are of your age and need company to share the joy of old age.
 5. Plan your old age while you are young. When you are young you have the ability to work hard and achieve what you think as your body and mind both can support each other. But that is not the case at old age, even though you are fit enough mentally, your body will not support (at least up to the level of your thirties or forties). So plan what and how would you like to live your old days without worries
